"V" Seals
V-ring shaft seals utilize centrifugal slinger action to provide effective protection against dry and wet contamination. The V-ring also performs well in dry running applications. Because it is all rubber and very elastic, it can be stretched over other components for easy installation with minimal disassembly. It has very low torque drag and heat buildup, and does not require expensive counter surface preparation.
Rubber Bands
Rubber bands are primarily manufactured using natural rubber because of its superior elasticity.
Rubber bands are made by extruding the rubber into a long tube to provide its general shape, putting the tubes on mandrels, curing the rubber with heat, and then slicing it across the width of the tube into little bands. This causes the tube to split into multiple sections, creating a rubber band.
Diaphragm
A diaphragm is a flexible membrane that seals and isolates an enclosure. The flexible nature of this seal allows pressure effects to cross the barrier but not the material being contained. Common uses for diaphragm seals are to protect pressure sensors.
Hydraulic "U" Seals
U-cup seals, as their name implies, have a U-shaped profile, including an outside ... the most common material used for U-cup seals in hydraulic applications. These are used to seal the opening between the components in the hydraulic cylinders.
Oil Seals Fenders
As valve guides wear, their ability to positively locate the valve to the valve seat decreases. As the valves lose their ability to seal the combustion chamber properly, the engine can lose performance and start to burn oil, leaking from the top of the cylinder head into the intake and exhaust manifolds. Modern engines are fitted with valve stem oil seals which can be replaced if oil leakage occurs.
